My name is Kyle Loughrin. I grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois and made my way down to Carbondale in the fall of 2008 knowing absolutely nothing about where my education at Southern Illinois University would take me. The end of my freshman year, still undecided and with no direction, I heard of a completely student-run television show called alt.news 26:46. Luckily I remembered to check it out when I came back sophomore year. I had an interest in cameras and video, but almost no experience. alt.news gave me the opportunity to get hands on experience immediately; learning the basics of editing (with Final Cut Pro), the ins and outs of cameras as well as lighting techniques from other students that were clearly passionate about this field.
Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to write, direct, film, edit and be a part of a nationally recognized, Emmy-winning team. It is now my senior year here at SIUC and I plan to graduate with a Radio-Television degree in May 2012 before moving to Los Angeles to begin my career.
